Comments:
Following the success of the original MR2 Toyota produced this model with a larger mid engine and power steering. (MR2 stands for Mid engine, Rear wheel drive, 2 seater)
Despite being around since 1989 it is amazing how these cars still manage to turn heads, particularly if fitted with nice alloys. T-bar roof is nice but chassis loses some rigidity.
Chassis was improved in 1992 and 14'' wheels replaced with 15''. Facelift in 1994 with round rear lights and new spoiler.
Though not as well received as the original MR2 it is nevertheless a very nice car to own and drive. The normally aspirated 2.0 engine has a surprising amount of torque and makes the car feel effortlessly fast. An automatic is available which is a beautiful gearbox and perfectly mated to the engine.
The turbo comes in 2 models: GT and GTS. The GT is the better version with all the spec of the GTS as well as leather seats and ABS. The turbo is fast but care is needed particularly in the wet. With 225PS fed through the rear wheels snap oversteer can be a problem.
Best choice is the auto non turbo.
